Speakers, so named because of their proficiency with magic and possession of fully functional lairns, are the highest caste of the draconics apart from demiwyrms and dragons themselves. Speakers will arise from any partnership wherein the biological father is a dragon, apart from those between a dragon and another dragon. This will hold true regardless of whether this partnership is between a dragon and a fae, a dragon and a demiwyrm, a dragon and a speaker, or even a dragon and a sape. Speakers may also arise from partnerships between speakers.
Due to the fact that speakers can maintain their own populations with no dragon present and are more than powerful enough to protect themselves without the protection of a dragon, there are villages of speakers entirely disconnected from society as a whole. Such villages are called 'isolates' and are generally avoided by younger dragons, as these villages are actively hostile toward us and will kill us given the opportunity.
Speakers are, other than dragons who are over 5,000 years old, the most powerful mages in Mersia.
