Flowgrass

Flowgrass is an herbaceous flowering plant native to Teth. Flowgrass is notable for multiplying any telekinetic forces applied to it. It is cultivated in some areas for its uniquely useful properties.

Properties

Flowgrass applies a linear multiplier to any telekinetic force vector applied to it. This varies by the individual plant, between 1.15x and 6x for wild plants, and between 100 and 400x for cultivated varieties. An individual strand of flowgrass can generally carry a scalar force vector of about 0.05 pounds of input force. In a cultivated plant, this means one stalk may carry between 5 and 20 pounds of force, depending on its potency. The multiplicative property of flowgrass only activates when the one applying the force is in close proximity to it. It ceases to function beyond 12-15 feet.

Once plucked, if a piece of flowgrass lies 'dormant' for too long (a period of 3-12 days, depending on variety) it will decay and lose its properties. Dormancy may be 'reset' by using the flowgrass, or the item containing the flowgrass.

The properties may be made permanent through continuous and prolonged use, in a fashion similar the development of a weaponskill.

Preparation

Flowgrass stalks are the part of the plant most convenient for use due to the ability of the fibers within to be spun into thread. Spinning flowgrass into thread does not improve the multiplier, though it may improve the size of the scalar force vector that may be carried for a given strand.

Usage

The most common usage of flowgrass is in the preparation of sleds. Large sleds are prepared with a significant amount of flowgrass in the skids, allowing for a single person to move many tons of cargo. This is useful in cities with a significant proportion of mages, in areas which see much trade (for example Raol Pera, Tainra, or Ocean City).
