Fae are a race of sentient beings comprised of potentia.
Fae are most often tied to a specific location or area, with the definition of their personal dominion expanding as they grow more powerful.
A fae is formed when a sentient being (a dragon or sape, but very rarely another fae), attaches sentimental meaning or significance to a location, building, object, concept, or area.
Fae do not age and come into the world fully formed, with basic knowledge of fae law as it relates to their own existence, and no pre-defined individual personality.
A fae grows in power and range as more sentient beings attach significance to thing it represents. A fae with looser definitions (e.g. spirit of tax evasion) can roam further, whereas a fae with stricter definitions (e.g. spirit of specifically this sword) is less free.
A fae can travel if in the company of a sentient being that has bound itself to the same place the fae was born from. That is, if a sentient being swears an Oath of Return over land inhabited by a fae, the fae may accompany the being anywhere in the world, as long as the being returns to this land to release the fae.
Fae may be associated with some attribute, such as cold, heat, damp, dry, strong, or jovial. They may exhibit any abilities which are close in association to these attributes, as well as the thing they are the resident fae of.
Deity Fae are a set of sixteen fae which each govern a core fundamental physical concept and may appear or intervene anywhere that concept is relevant.
Folkloric Fae are fae which are tied to an event, recurring narrative, or feeling. For example, Pyrrhus. Fae of this type can freely wander the land and are not tied down to any specific place. They are strongly associated with the folkmore and may arise from one. Some folklorics were once sapes.
Nature Fae are fae which are tied to a specific natural formation or feature, such as a mountain, forest, or river. They are created by dragons.
A latebrangel is a fae created by a dragon and is tied to and responsible for the lair of that dragon. Latebrangels may serve multiple dragons over their lives, and their lives end when the lair is no longer occupied or is destroyed.
A resangel is a fae created by a dragon, draconic person, or sape. It dwells in weapons or other objects which have gained a weaponskill.
