-**Latebrangels** or **Lair Angels** are beings who exist to serve [[dragon|the resident]] of a [[dragon's lair|lair]], feeding on the potentia of their resident and in turn handling the internal affairs of the lair. Because it exists to serve, the latebrangel's very existence is directly related to the tasks it does for its dragon, and how useful and helpful it is. They are by their nature symbiotic parasites of their host dragons, but they provide the dragon with such useful benefits that this relatioship is always a positive one. The latebrangel may or may not develop an emotional attachment to its host dragon, and it will be fiercely loyal to its host dragon as long as the dragon holds the lair securely. In some cases, the latebrangel may even arrange for the resurrection of its previous host, especially if the host is killed while abroad. A latebrangel will, however, gladly serve a new dragon if this new dragon uses the lair regularly and supplies the latebrangel with at least as much potentia as the old resident. The apparent extreme loyalty of a latebrangel is entirely self-serving, as a latebrangel cannot survive without a host dragon.+**Latebrangels** or **Lair Angels** are beings who exist to serve [[dragon|the resident]] of a [[dragon's lair|lair]], feeding on the [[potentia]] of their resident and in turn handling the internal affairs of the lair.  =====Lifecycle===== =====Lifecycle=====
 +
 +The life and development of a latebrangel is intrinsically linked with the health and well-being of its host dragon, and at any point in the latebrangel's life, its existence may be cut short if the dragon is sufficiently harmed or killed.
 +
 +====Early Life====

 A latebrangel is born when a dragon either finds or constructs a lair. Once the lair is in a state the dragon finds comfortable, and the dragon begins to regularly sleep there, a latebrangel gradually takes form. The latebrangel is weak at first as it grows. In its first few months, the latebrangel is entirely reliant on the dragon for protection. It is not until the latebrangel is one year old that it is solid and strong enough to use tools, but even then, only light tools which do not require much strength or precision, such as brooms or rags.  A latebrangel is born when a dragon either finds or constructs a lair. -For the first few years of its life, the latebrangel's primary duties are restricted to cleaning and fetching objects for the resident dragon. Not out of a lack of will, but because the latebrangel's mind is still forming, and cleaning tasks are both necessary and simple. These tasks provide the most benefit to its host with the least risk and effort, thus ensuring the latebrangel receives a steady stream of potentia with which to grow. It is not until the latebrangel is ten years old that it becomes a better servant than an adult sape or drakeling.+For the first few years of its life, the latebrangel's primary duties are restricted to cleaning and fetching objects for the resident dragon.  As the latebrangel continues to develop, it eventually gains the ability to appear anywhere within the lair, to perceive any sound or sight within the lair regardless of where it is, and to become invisible while within the lair. It soon develops the ability to teleport objects within the lair to itself.  As the latebrangel continues to develop, it eventually gains the ability to appear anywhere within the lair, to perceive any sound or sight within the lair regardless of where it is, and to become invisible while within the lair. -As the latebrangel reaches twenty years of age, its duties shift from simple cleaning tasks to those of maintenance and construction. It is at this point that the latebrangel begins to construct the labyrinth of the lair. A spiraling network of corridors, dead ends, secret passages, and plentiful traps in order to dispatch anyone who tries to infiltrate the lair. For guests, the latebrangel is able to rotate walls and floors at will to create a clear and unobstructed path for those who wish to meet with the dragon as a peaceful audience, to discuss matters of diplomacy or trade.+As the latebrangel reaches twenty years of age, its duties shift from simple cleaning tasks (which are left to sape and drakeling servants who work under the latebrangel) to those of maintenance and construction. It is at this point that the latebrangel begins to construct the labyrinth of the lair, often working alongside and directing a team of [[draconic race#wyrmkin|wyrmkin]] construction workers.  +The latebrangel will usually develop the ability to be in more than one place at the same time around when it reaches fifty years of age. Once it can be in multiple places at once, it may resume cleaning duties in addition to its construction duties. At this point in its life, the latebrangel begins to develop offensive magic with which to repel invaders, which may become more frequent as the host dragon's influence grows. At this point in its life, it may join the [[draconic race#draigfolk|draigfolk]] of the dragon's guard in their defense of the lair.
